Vision

A Peircean will be an effective and confident Mother Tongue Language communicator with a sense of identity and pride in their ethnic cultures.

 

Philosophy

We are committed to cultivate in our students the love of learning their Mother Tongue Languages, and to create an environment that promotes appreciation of our cultural heritage and cross-cultural understanding. Our Department strives to:

  • To deepen the passion of learning Mother Tongue languages

  • To expand the use of Mother Tongue Languages beyond the classroom

  • To incorporate the use of technology in the learning of Mother Tongue Languages.

  • To impart cultural and traditional values of the various ethnic groups to the students

 

Key Approaches

Our key approaches are two-pronged:
Firstly we ensure students are engaged in learning during lessons through performance tasks and formative assessment tools such as rubrics and checklist;
Secondly, we ensure our students are able to reinforce their learning through the use of technology at their own pace.

 

Engaging Students in Classroom

Effective Collaboration (21st CC) – Lessons are designed to ensure students are paired / grouped purposefully so that higher order thinking and in-depth discussion on specific themes can be facilitated.

 

Engaging Students beyond Classroom

Effective Use of Technology (Self-Directed Learning) – Students have regular interactive oral communication practises using the iMTL portal or LMS Portal as an alternative platform after lesson to enhance learning.
